Eugene Barnard

  • Founder

    Eugene, professional architect, and the founding member of the practice, brings over 40 years of experience in architecture and dispute resolution, specialising in healthcare and educational facilities. Graduating from the University of Port Elizabeth (now Nelson Mandela University) with dual degrees in Architecture and Building, he founded LEMEG in Polokwane in 1984. With extensive expertise in hospital design, civic buildings, and contract law, Eugene’s notable projects include Tshilidzini Regional Hospital, Letaba Hospital, Mankweng Hospital, Jane Furse Hospital, Kriel Civic Centre, and various Colleges of Education. His deep knowledge ensures clients receive practical, legally sound, and highly functional designs, backed by widespread industry leadership and professional dedication. Eugene is a registered arbitrator and mediator, leaning on his extensive experience, such as his time as Chairman of the National Practice Committee of SAIA (South African Institute of Architects), chairing the SAIA Constitution Drafting panel and representing the profession on the Professional Practice Commission of the International Union of Architects.

    Navigating the complexities of structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering, while collaborating with Quantity Surveyors, calls for someone who can foresee and address challenges effectively. Sydney Lefifi brings over two decades of architectural experience and a deep understanding of technology to the table. As a Professional Architect, his leadership encourages teamwork and collaboration, ensuring designs are both thoughtful and of high quality. Having worked across sectors such as healthcare and education, Sydney combines careful planning, innovative solutions, and a focus on the future to help projects succeed. His holistic approach ensures that every aspect, from creative design to technical details, is carefully considered.

  • Professional Architect

    David joined LEMEG Architects in 2013, bringing a passion for enhancing human habitats and a curiosity for the environments we create. Since then, he has contributed to projects such as the Mental Health Unit at Tshilidzini Regional Hospital in Limpopo. With a Master’s Degree in Technology from TUT (2021) and experience in BIM (Building Information Modelling), medical facilities planning, and urban development, David excels in research, development, and construction documentation. As a Professional Architect, he combines his skills to bring innovative solutions to each project he undertakes.

    Abigail le Grange brings a global perspective and expertise to her architectural work. Having completed her Master’s degrees in Architecture and Applied Science, including a joint program in the Netherlands and South Africa, she combines academic excellence with international experience. Her tenure in Germany at Auer Weber Architekten ( a German architecture firm, founded and headquartered in Stuttgart and Munich) enriched her skill set, honing her design approach on innovative projects such as Hope for the Blind Eye Hospital and the standard for Provincial Libraries in Limpopo. Abigail’s blend of creativity, planning, and client focused solutions ensures she delivers exceptional designs tailored to client needs.

  • Senior Architectural Technologist

    Hlabirwa brings over a decade of experience in architectural design and technical services to each project, ensuring precision and efficiency from concept to completion. His expertise in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and his work on high-impact projects like the Tshilidzini Regional Hospital and the Sekhukhune Shopping Centre means clients benefit from innovative, cost-effective solutions. Hlabirwa’s technical expertise ensures seamless project execution, minimizing delays and maximizing quality, giving clients peace of mind and confidence in the final result.
